While working on a contract in Buffalo, New York, I stopped in a store in a mall to look at their selection of posters. One caught my eye, because it has so many things I can relate to: "Peter's LawsTM - The Creed of the Sociopathic Obsessive Compulsive" - which says something about my personality, I guess! I looked in the bin matching the number on the poster, but it didn't have any copies of the one I was looking for. I looked through all of the bins - and still came up empty-handed. When I asked the clerk working in the store about it, she told me the one on display was the last one they had - so I bought it.
One of the rules (number 12) on the poster is "When faced without a challenge, make one." Without something challenging in your life, you can easily fall into a rut of a dull routine. Once that happens, getting back out of it again is no small task, in part because you've lost the habit of overcoming the challenges in your way.
We need challenging things to do in our lives. We grow, expand our skills and abilities, by overcoming obstacles, by solving problems, and by trying things that would otherwise be beyond the range of our experience. Personal growth can be as often a mental exercise as it is a physical one, so if you're not looking for a physical challenge, try a mental one, and vice versa. In any case, don't be afraid of challenges: You are better off being afraid of a lack of challenges!
As always, comments are always welcome. We appreciate your feedback.
